Jamie McMurray claimed his third win of the season by beating title contenders Kyle Busch and Jimmie Johnson on Saturday night at Charlotte. The Earnhardt Ganassi driver worked his way up in the order from the early laps of the race and was able to stay in close contention at the front, leading the race for the first time on lap 179 after running out of sequence with the leaders by staying out during the fifth caution of the day. McMurray ultimately lost the lead to Johnson but remained among the frontrunners when the final caution of the race waved for debris on the track with 25 laps to goMarcos Ambrose Kingsford Kroger Toyota Denny Hamlin FedEx Office Toyota

CONCORD, N.C. -- It may have been a familiar car up front in Saturday's Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, but it was hardly just another hum-drum NASCAR championship effort.

Casey Stoner set himself up for a fourth straight home victory by taking a dominate pole position for the Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island, ahead of new champion Jorge Lorenzo. Ducati's Stoner was fastest for most of the session, and though Yamaha man Lorenzo crept ahead of him with 14 minutes remaining, a blistering 1m30.281s lap from the Australian four minues later put him back on pole by nearly half a second
Casey Stoner was quickest in the Phillip Island warm-up by a crushing margin of nearly two seconds. In mostly dry conditions, Stoner found far more grip than anyone else and was already over a second clear before his final lap of 1m30.942s put him 1.890s ahead of nearest rival Marco Simoncelli (Gresini Honda)Great Clips Toyota Paul Menard Richmond Menards Ford Mark Green

McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh has warned rivals that it would be "unwise" to write Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton off the title battle despite their gap to the top of the standings. With only three races remaining, Hamilton is 28 points behind championship leader Mark Webber, with Button three points adrift of his team-mate. The gaps mean that the McLaren duo will need the drivers in front to endure a series of poor races in order to have a shot at the title. Tech 3 Yamaha boss Herve Poncharal believes Ben Spies deserves huge credit for taking rookie of the year honours in his MotoGP debut season - the American having clinched the newcomers' class with his fifth place at Phillip Island today. Although Spies arrived in MotoGP as the reigning World Superbike champion, Poncharal pointed out that he was up against the top four from last year's 250cc championship - Hiroshi Aoyama, Hector Barbera, Marco Simoncelli and Alvaro Bautista - all of whom knew the majority of circuits on the MotoGP calendar, unlike Spies. "Ben's amazing season just gets better and better," said Poncharal. Jimmie Kenneth Johnson Kasey Kenneth Kahne Matthew Roy Kenseth Alan Dennis Kulwicki
